FTSE 250 movers: Supergroup surges on dividend announcement, energy stocks higher

Fashion firm Supergroup topped the risers after saying it would begin paying dividends with an interim payout in its 2015-16 financial year. Chief executive Euan Sutherland also revealed a surprise repurchase of it North American rights.

Energy stocks were trading higher as oil prices spiked, including Ophir Energy and Cairn Energy. Ophir Energy was also boosted by an upgrade from ‘hold’ to ‘buy’ by analysts at Jefferies.

Polymetal International gained as it hailed the potential of its Kutyn project in the wake of positive analysis of its oil reserves. "This capital-light heap-leaching project has excellent potential to generate cash flows in the medium-term; it also offers upside from conversion of the underground resources to ore reserves and a further exploration upside," said chief executive Vitaly Nesis.

Card Factory rebounded from Thursday’s disappointing dividend, where investors were left waiting for a special dividend.

Bodycote was among the fallers after going ex-dividend.

Euromoney was trading lower on a downgrade to ‘hold’ from equities researches at N+1 Singer.
