The fine linked to its sales of residential mortgage backed securities in the run-up to the Great Financial Crisis would be $5.4bn, well short of the DoJ's inital demand of $14bn, a person familiar with the talks between the two parties told AFP.
An agreement might be announced in the next couple of days, and the final amount decided upon "slightly different", the same source reportedly said.
As of 1428 BST shares in the German lender were bouncing back to €10.78.
