US house prices pick up momentum in September
US house prices accelerated in September, data released on Tuesday showed.
The S&P/Case-Shiller index rose 0.2% in the three months to the end of September, while prices rose 5.5% year-on-year compared with a 5.1% gain in the previous month.
On a month-on-month basis, prices rose 0.6% compared with a 0.1% gain in the previous month and analysts' expectations for a 0.3% advance.
In the quarter to September, San Francisco, Denver and Portland saw double-digit yearly gains, the report added.
"We expect solid employment growth and modest wage increases to continue to support the housing market," said analysts at Barclays.
"We see ongoing gradual increases in house prices, a steady rise in residential construction, and further gains in new and existing home sales."
