Appointed CFO in 2015, Torrens was leapfrogged to the chief executive role in February this year by consumer business chief Tristia Harrison, while Carphone Warehouse founder Charles Dunstone took an executive role as chairman amid a board revamp when Dido Harding stepped down.
Ferry, whose full title at DC is director of investor relations and corporate affairs, joined the technology retailer seven year ago after working as a retail analyst at Merrill Lynch and an audit manager at PwC, where she qualified as a chartered accountant.
The date of Torrens' departure and Ferry's start were not confirmed, with TalkTalk saying it will make a further announcement when these are confirmed.
"As we continue our journey under the new leadership team and with a refocused direction, Kate brings a wealth of experience to the role," said Dunstone.
"Her skills will work really well at TalkTalk and we're looking forward to working with her as we focus on delivering our new and exciting plan for the business."
